MINIATURES
Mysterious Barricades #8
Dresden, Germany
Kartoffel Gallery
Duration: 22 minutes
Photographs by Monika Deimling

Context:
The Kartoffel Gallery is a new, small yet remarkable art space in Dresden. At a time when financial cuts threaten the survival of many cultural venues, the opening of a new gallery is a heartening act of resilience. With great spirit and a deep love for the arts, Lita Poliakova has created a space where small artworks can be acquired by a broad audience. She believes that art should be an integral part of everyday life – like the potato, something simple, sustaining, and accessible rather than exclusive.
For the gallery’s opening, I presented the performance Miniatures. Given the intimate scale of the space, I adapted my concept, accordingly, performing by sitting in front of a small table. Rather than posing a limitation, this spatial reduction became an affirmation of performance art’s adaptability – its ability to find a place in even the most unexpected niches and circumstances.
